Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams killed himself on August 11, in his home in Marin County, after what is reported to have been a very long and painful struggle with depression, brought on by his addictions. Today, his 3 children with ex-wife Marsha Garces Williams are releasing statements on their huge loss.

Robin Williams was an amazing man, his friends and collaborators have been saying on various forums since the news of his death was confirmed. He was kind and very likeable and had an energy that filled an entire room when he walked in. He was funny and generous and was a pleasure to be around.

To his 3 children, Zelda, Zak, and Cody, he was also an inspiration, a friend, the rock they would always lean on whenever they needed help or a word of advice. As Zelda says, he was “warm, even in the darkest moments” and she must know very well what she’s talking about since Robin struggled with depression for many years of his life.

Despite his inner struggle, which is believed to have been caused by his internalizing his addiction issues, Robin Williams was always there when you needed him, in whichever way you needed him. Zelda’s statement best sums up who he was as a man by highlighting the impact his absence from this world will have. It will also break the heart.

“My family has always been private about our time spent together. It was our way of keeping one thing that was ours, with a man we shared with an entire world. But now that’s gone, and I feel stripped bare. My last day with him was his birthday, and I will be forever grateful that my brothers and I got to spend that time alone with him, sharing gifts and laughter,” she writes.

“He was always warm, even in his darkest moments. While I’ll never, ever understand how he could be loved so deeply and not find it in his heart to stay, there’s minor comfort in knowing our grief and loss, in some small way, is shared with millions. It doesn't help the pain, but at least it’s a burden countless others now know we carry, and so many have offered to help lighten the load. Thank you for that,” Zelda continues.

She thanks those fans who sent in prayers and kind words, and even those who sent in negativity and criticism. These she warns Robin is about to send a flock of pigeons to poop on their car after they had it washed. Because Robin Williams liked nothing more in life than to have a good laugh.

“Dad was, is and always will be one of the kindest, most generous, gentlest souls I’ve ever known, and while there are few things I know for certain right now, one of them is that not just my world, but the entire world is forever a little darker, less colorful and less full of laughter in his absence. We’ll just have to work twice as hard to fill it back up again,” Zelda continues.

Zak and Cody kept their statements briefer but they’re just as beautiful. Robin Williams will for ever be missed.
