It's a controversial move, but one that many saw coming a long time ago with all the scandals involving Robin Thicke and his friendly ways towards women. Now the pair has announced their split with a statement to People.

Paula and Robin have a long-running relationship that goes back to when he was fourteen. The couple have been together for 22 years and have been married since 2005, but today they decided to go their separate ways.

“We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time,” says their statement, showing there are no ill feelings between the two.

Robin and Paula also have a son together, which they've welcomed into the world in April 2010 and named him Julian Fuego. Thicke has also spoken with affection about his wife and praised her for her understanding “We're pretty sure we've loved each other for a few lives.”

However, Robin has pointed out that there are times when they debate, mostly over things that get misunderstood, “She's supported me from day one. Sometimes she rolls her eyes. Things [I say] get misconstrued in interviews and then debated. So some of it's pretty weird.”

Though the couple has not made the reason for their split public, many media outlets have speculated that it's due to Robin's womanizing ways. For example, he was photographed in August last year at a party getting real friendly with socialite Lana Scolaro, grabbing her bottom among other things.

“It's been a long time coming” says an insider, hinting that the couple have been flirting with the idea for some time now. But that doesn't mean it's a surprise, since the two seemed to be very much in love as late as the Grammy Awards, where they posed on the red carpet as a happy couple.
