Roberto Carlos is staying with Real Madrid. No, it's neither a joke, nor a way to scare the madrilène fans. Although he was voted as the most un-loveable character inside Fabio Capello's team - by the fans, of course - the Brazilian seemed to have given up on Real. So he held talks with both Chelsea and Fenerbahce Istanbul. The latter almost got the Brazilian defender to sign a contract earlier today, but it seems that changes of heart are very fashionable these days.
After
Didier Frogba decided to stay with Chelsea and Reyes denied wanting to leave Arsenal, Roberto Carlos changed his mind about leaving the Capello's side. Actually, his decision had a lot to do with the Italian, since the former Juventus technician does not want Carlos to go.
So, after a discussion between the two, Roberto Carlos released a statement in which he ruled off all moves. More, he stated that he intends to end his football career in Madrid and that he will try his best not to disappoint his new coach.
"I want to stay at the club. I say it loudly and clearly. After returning from my holidays I feel good. Capello has given me new enthusiasm and I am a lot happier. We have had a long chat and spoken about everything. He has told me he is counting on me, that he wants me in the side and that he expects a lot from me", said Carlos.
He continued: "I would like to make sure of the second year of my contract so that I know I can continue in the team until 2008. We will have to see what happens. I have spoken to Capello and now I have to explain to Mijatovic what I told the coach".
With no one transferred to take Carlos' place in the team, it is more than likely that he will not be urged to leave the club too soon. Predrag Mijatovic, Real's sporting director, will decide whether his former teammate will leave the club or not. He is expected to release a statement on this issue later this week.
