Though he’s usually known for the speed with which he finishes work on a movie, it took Robert Rodriguez almost a year to wrap up “Machete” – but he finally did it.

The idea of making an entire film for the Machete character first came to Rodriguez when he saw the amazing reaction audiences had to the faux trailer he included in his movie “Grindhouse.”

As the character attained a life of his own, Rodriguez began mulling over the idea of making an entire feature film around him – and the result of all this work will be seen this September, as CinemaBlend can confirm.

Now, though contrary to his usual style of working, “Machete” is completed and awaits US release, as Rodriguez himself happily announces on his Twitter page. “Just finished MACHETE!!!! Can't wait for you to see it. Get ready...” he tweets.

“Machete” stars huge names like Robert de Niro, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Michelle Rodriguez and, of course, Danny Trejo as the unmistakable Machete. CinemaBlend believes fans would have gotten it earlier if it hadn’t been for “Predators.”

Also this year, Rodriguez’s fans were treated to a new film in the “Predator” series, meant to reboot the franchise and bring back some of the spirit that made the Schwarzenegger original such a massive hit with fans of horror pics.

This explains why he took so much time working with “Machete” – aside from the obvious fact that he had to work around the schedule of the other actors to accommodate them all.

“Robert Rodriguez is known for two things in his filmmaking: he can stretch small budgets a mile and he works tremendously fast. It probably helps that he’s dedicated to shooting digital. Despite his track record, however, it’s taken him more than a year to complete his newest film: Machete,” the movie e-zine says.

“Machete” has Rodriguez himself in the director’s chair, a job whose responsibilities he shares with Ethan Maniquis, which presumably sped things up a bit as well. Be that as it may, things are definitely looking up for the visionary director.

“It’s likely that what slowed production was the making of Predators in between, but with a second director on board it’s strange that Machete is only finishing now. Rodriguez still has Sin City 2, Spy Kids 4, Nerveracker, and, possibly, the Deadpool movie on his plate, let’s hope he hasn’t lost his gift for speed,” CinemaBlend further notes.
