Robert Pattinson (Edward) on “New Moon”: not really that ripped, report says

When photos of Robert Pattinson’s Edward passionately kissing Kristen Stewart’s Bella on “New Moon” emerged a couple of weeks ago, “Twilight” fans were nothing short of ecstatic. Aside from confirming to them that the sequel would have its tearjerker moments, the pics also came to shed some light – literally – on how Edward must look without a shirt on. Unfortunately, it was all dust in the eyes, Star Magazine says in the print edition.

Robert stunned fans with his ripped abs and prominent pecs but it turns out that he’s far from being in the shape they might have thought, the mag claims, citing reliable inside sources (story via here). Granted, the handsome British actor is anything but in a bad shape but, as it turns out, those muscles were not really his, but rather the result of very good body makeup and excellent lighting.

“Ab-solutely awesome! Robert Pattinson is considered one of the hottest men on the planet, and fans are still swooning over shots of the shirtless ‘New Moon’ hunk filming in Italy. Sorry, ladies, the 23-year-old’s ripped abs aren’t real!” Star Magazine writes. Moreover, the mag even got to speak to someone who reportedly was on the set in Italy right before the scene, and has now confirmation that the ripped muscles were make-believe, since Robert is not the guy to hit the gym only for one scene.

“Rob had a team of makeup artists working on his stomach to make it appear as if he had a six-pack. They used all their tricks – including liquid body paint, shading and airbrushing – to make his torso look toned. Whenever they stopped filming, Rob would duck back inside to get touched up by the makeup team. The lighting team helped to accentuate the shading and highlights. Rob is definitely not that in shape. He hates the gym and will never really be a muscle man!” the spy tells Star.

While the jury is still out on whether the muscles were the real deal or not (meaning, fans are still debating on this on Twilight-dedicated forums), we know for a fact that what we see in the photos is not how Edward will look in the film. As we were telling you a while back as well, the photos also show Pattinson with black dots on his face and body, which are actually GCI markers for further enhancements in post-production. “New Moon” comes out in November, and it is then that fans will see beyond any doubt what the markers were supposed to do.
