“Twilight” darlings and (presumably) real-life sweethearts as well Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have just showed the world just how much love and support they get from their fans.

E! Online conducted a poll to determine which of 16 pairs of celebrities deserved to be called the King and Queen of Summer of 2010 and, to no one’s surprise, Pattinson and Stewart won hands down.

For a short while, though, competition was stiff, with runner-ups Robert Downey Jr. and Katy Perry threatening to usurp the two. In the end, they failed – but there’s always next year.

“In the beginning we presented you with 32 of the summer’s hottest celebrities, 16 men and 16 women, and put the task of crowing a King and a Queen of the hot season in your hands,” E! writes.

“Your King and Queen of Summer 2010: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart,” the publication proudly announces.

The duo didn’t win only because they happen to be in “Twilight,” the same media outlet informs. The fact that they’re always in the spotlight also contributes to them being more popular with audiences.

In fact, their rumored love story is constantly in the tabloids, with millions of people from all over the world keeping an eye out for even the smallest resemblance of a development to it.

In this sense, the grainy photo that hit the web in August this year and that seemed to offer irrefutable confirmation that the two are, in fact, an item, only boosted their public profile, E! says.

Still, the runner-ups also put up a good fight.

“In the final round, Robert Downey Jr.’s charms proved no match for Rob’s. The veteran actor was sent packing after receiving only 31.3 percent of the vote to Pattinson’s 68.7,” says E!.

“Likewise, Kristen ended final challenger Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream domination, grabbing 61.6 percent to Perry’s 38.4,” the e-zine also notes.
