He once joked that he could only dream of ever getting co-star Taylor Lautner's ripped physique, but it seems Robert Pattinson did a bit more than just dream. In a new interview, the actor recalls his struggle to get a six-pack – and subsequent failure. After showing off his lean abdomen in “New Moon,” the second installment in “The Twilight Saga,” Pattinson decided to start working out and get an enviable six-pack by the time he was to start shooting the much talked about love scene in “Breaking Dawn Part 1.”
It was, however, easier said than done, he discovered shortly, he says for Mexico's 15 a 20 magazine (quotes via
Twilight Poison).
There was a lot of pressure for the love scene in the upcoming film, the British actor says. He and everyone else involved wanted to make it truly “spectacular,” if only for the reason that, in Stephenie Meyer's original novel, it's not described in detail.
Aside from that, Pattinson also wanted to look his best on film and not disappoint the millions of Twi-hards that had been waiting for years to see his Edward and Bella (Kristen Stewart) consummate their love.
“You also worry about how you’re going to look, I had never been so worried about that before, but after seeing how much Taylor works out for the movies, I thought 'Well, everybody is really going to judge me now',” Robert recalls.
With his in mind, he started working out and paying more attention to what he ate.
“I always tried to think about positions where where I could tense the muscles, and suck in my belly… Ok, I think I just gave the most vain answer I could come up with,” he says in his usual self-deprecating style.
“Especially because in this saga the body of the characters seems to be a big deal,” he continues.
He didn't want to be the exception.
“So in this movie I thought, 'OK, it’s the last one, I’m getting a six pack,' and I tried, but it’s VERY hard. I worked out so hard for 6 months, so after filming the love scene the first thing I thought was 'Time to eat!'” he says.
While Pattinson is in excellent shape, he's the exact contrary of his co-star Lautner. In previous interviews, Robert admitted to being adverse to working out and packing muscle, saying it didn't suit him.
