Actor says he still can’t watch his own performances

“New Moon,” the second installment of “The Twilight Saga,” is practically around the corner, as fans must already know. Millions of screaming fans and eager celebrities will crowd theaters in November to see it premiere – of them, one person will not be happy to be there, as he says so himself. Robert Pattinson still can’t watch his own movies, as he admits in an interview with The Daily Record.

Fans know Robert is shy and likes to keep to himself, which makes it so that a red carpet is not exactly the best place for him to be and feel comfortable. Still, one would perhaps expect things to change a bit after a year spent in the most intense and critical spotlight: but not for Pattinson, who still attends premieres for his own movies with difficulty. In the same interview, Robert reveals doing the shirtless scene was extremely “embarrassing,” while also explaining why he wouldn’t like to see Edward Cullen, the cold and charming vampire he plays, in person.

“I still can’t watch myself either. I have always been like that.” the British star tells the aforementioned publication. “Watching myself at the ‘Twilight’ premiere was a mistake. I had never watched anything of myself since ‘Harry Potter.’ But I went to it because my whole family was coming to see it. Nothing comes other than this pure discomfort. I can’t watch myself. I am just feeling everybody else’s reaction. I can’t handle that at all.” Pattinson explains, adding that he is incredibly bad at handling compliments or criticism.

As for the shirtless scene in “New Moon,” part of which has already been previewed at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego and that got girls screaming their lungs out, Robert says shooting it was extremely embarrassing. While he does not go into specifics about what made it so awkward (other than having to take his shirt off, of course), suffice it to say that, so far, fans have found nothing to complain about – quite on the contrary. The Edward character too is not exactly to Robert’s liking, who says “he is a little straight-laced” to grow fond of him, should they hypothetically meet in real life. Still, Edward is a pleasure to play, the actor adds.

Fans wondering about Robert’s plans for the future can stop asking themselves this question now. For the time being, he is happy to be regarded solely for his part in “The Twilight Saga,” but he will certainly show his real worth in his upcoming projects. “I don’t think I have to prove anything to anyone. I don’t expect anyone to give me any breaks. I am not one of those people who wants to scream ‘give me a chance. I will show you what I can do.’ You know, I really don’t care. If you do this stuff, then the audience will respond. And if you can’t actually play any other part, that’s all right, too.” Robert Pattinson concludes by saying.
