With the kind of popularity British actor Robert Pattinson enjoys with the female segment of his fanbase, it’s almost impossible to believe life hasn’t changed that much for him in the year since the release of “Twilight.” Yet, it hasn’t, Pattinson says in a new interview with The Mirror, and he still has trouble getting girls to go out with him. The good news for all who still daydream about one day dating him is that this also means he’s single, despite reports to the contrary.

A few days ago, Pattinson and co-star and onscreen love interest Kristen Stewart were spotted at a Kings of Leon concert in Vancouver. In some of the photos snapped on the occasion, they seemed to be kissing, which, again, set off rumors of a secret affair going on between them when the cameras were off. Luckily for fans around the world, that is not the case, as Robert himself admits in his most recent interview.

“I don’t have a girlfriend. I don’t know why.” Pattinson says for the aforementioned publication. “You always think you’re going to get more girls after you’ve made a movie and it never happens. You sit there and you’re like ‘I’m a big movie star and I want to go out with some models’ but I don’t know why that doesn’t happen. It’s especially different in LA. Most of the women there are actresses and by default that makes them a little bit nuts – not that that’s a bad thing. But I don’t really have a type. Whenever I get asked who my favourite celebrity crush is, I have no idea.” the actor further explains.

In the same interview, the actor also reveals that, while acting is his first love, music too occupies a very special place in his life, since he couldn’t possibly imagine living without it. He calls his music career a “backup plan” for becoming famous, in case he fails at acting. Safe to say, this is far from the case, judging by the crowds of screaming fans that gather within minutes after word gets out of him being at a particular location. Not that this has changed his life dramatically, Pattinson explains, though it does make him a bit more uncomfortable when he steps out.

“Most of the girls are all pretty young so it’s just kind of funny.” the star says of his screaming and adoring female fanbase. “But then you get the Twilight Mums who love you like mums! And you can take that too far. I mean, it could be ‘Edward breaks up Twilight family.’ […] I’ve been uncomfortable in crowds my whole life. I’ve always felt that everyone is looking at me. I could be in a supermarket and have a full-on panic attack when there’s no one else there. And this was even like five years ago, when nobody knew who I was.” the usually extremely private actor further explains.

*Update: Pattinson's publicist issued the following statement: “I will only comment on matters regarding Robert’s professional life, but in order to set the record straight, Robert did not speak to the Mirror, and their claim that they spoke to him a few days ago is manufactured along with any information that they claim to have as an exclusive directly from him.”
