A while back, Kristen Stewart put her foot in her mouth in an interview in which she was trying to explain how much harm the media attention and the paparazzi are doing to her on a daily basis. She compared being in front of the flashes of the cameras to being abused, for which she got so much criticism that she was forced to issue an apology. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, co-star Robert Pattinson comes to her defense.

The latest issue of the magazine features all three “Twilight” stars (Pattinson, Stewart and Taylor Lautner) in an interview that is meant to touch upon a wide array of topics, from the upcoming film “Eclipse” to the stars’ personal life and controversies in the past. These would also include the abuse comment Kristen made and which, according to Robert, was taken out of context and spun into something entirely different.

“None of those associations came out and gave a statement [criticizing Kristen] without being called upon by the media first. That whole system of Internet journalists, where no one is called to account, is almost entirely about hate. All these people get away with doing it because they have no responsibility to anyone. There are so many little nerds behind their computers, on their little blogs,” Pattinson says of how the media is no longer held accountable for the stories it runs.

Stewart sees things differently, though she too agrees that the entire situation was blown out of proportion. “I’m so sensitive about stuff like that. It is the one subject that means a lot to me. I made one movie directly concerning it and I made another one where my character has a horrible history of [abuse]. I talked to a lot of people about it. I used the wrong word. I should have said ‘violated.’ But I’m young and emotional. It’s just the way it goes sometimes. I probably shouldn’t say this, but I just feel like people got so excited once they saw that it was me. It was like, ‘Sweet! Lets get her!’” Stewart explains.

In the same interview, the actress also rubbishes reports that she and Robert admitted to Oprah backstage, before going on to shoot the “Eclipse” special that they were an item. She and Oprah only exchanged a few courtesy words and they did not even come close to talking about her love life, so confirming to her that she was dating her British co-star was definitely out of the question, Kristen tells EW.
