Indio Downey is Robert Downey Jr.'s son and, over the weekend, he found himself in trouble with the police over drug possession. This arrest brings back some painful memories for the actor, who had been struggling for a long time with the devastating effects of drug abuse.

TMZ reports that Indio was arrested in West Hollywood on Sunday afternoon, on June 29. Eyewitnesses confirmed that Indio was in the passenger seat of a car that got pulled over by cops around 2 in the afternoon.

The officers who made the arrest were supposedly forced to pull the car over when they glimpsed Indio puffing from a pipe when they drove along the car he was in at the time. After a brief search of the car, Downey's son was found to have cocaine in his possession and was immediately taken to jail.

The 20-year-old actor offspring is the son of Robert Downey Jr. and his former wife, Deborah Falconer. He previously did some acting of his own, appearing in the movie “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.”

The youth didn't spend too much time in lock-up because he posted his $10,000 (€7,190) bail and he was released from jail shortly after midnight.

This unfortunate incident brings back to the attention of the public Robert Downey's younger years, when he too had battled drug addiction. After finding fame in the '80s with his acting career, Robert fell into drug use and his life spiraled out of control in the '90s, earning him a stint in jail for possession. Among the drugs that made his life a hell were cocaine and heroin.

Eventually, Downey was able to kick his habit and even managed to make a successful comeback in 2001, currently enjoying immense popularity thanks to a series of iconic roles in big-budget films like Iron Man, The Avengers and Sherlock Holmes.

It's sad that Indio wasn't able to learn from his father's mistakes and keep away from drugs, knowing full well the problems they can cause. This isn't the first time that Downey's son makes headline news in connection with drugs.

Last year, Indio was reported to be seeking help with an addiction to pain pills that saw him undergo a “holistic, natural and orthomolecular” therapy in a rehab facility. At the time, it was his mother, Deborah Falconer, who disclosed to the press that her son was battling addiction.

Based on today's reports about his weekend arrest, it would seem that Indio moved up from pain pills all the way to cocaine.
