He’s also trying to get Marvel to cast Mel’s friend Jodie Foster in the next installment

Robert Downey Jr. isn’t just one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood right now thanks to his role as Iron Man in the Marvel universe, which includes, so far, appearances in the “Iron Man” franchise and the first “Avengers” movie, but he’s also able to pull a lot of strings to make good things happen for other people.

Those people would be, in this particular case, Mel Gibson and his good pal Jodie Foster. According to sources speaking to Radar Online, RDJ is positive he can get both roles in the next “Avengers” installment, even if Gibson seems a lost cause to many a movie studio because of his drunken and very controversial arrest of a few years back.

Insiders claim that RDJ is bound to Marvel for another 5 years, despite what he said in several interviews about how he’s too old to suit up as Iron Man for much longer. The deal, as per the tipsters, includes 2 more “Avengers” movies and a role as consultant on future “Iron Man” installments.

“But Robert is raising eyebrows with his efforts on behalf of his longtime best pals Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson,” adds one such spy.

“He wants to bring Mel and Jodie into the Marvel universe, preferably in one of the Avengers films. It’s been a longtime dream of Robert’s to help Mel and Jodie reach similar big box office heights like the ones he’s achieved in recent years,” the insider continues.

It wouldn’t be hard to get Foster a role, especially since she’s already had several appearances in 2013 that boosted her profile once more, like in the Matt Damon sci-fi vehicle “Elysium,” a visually gorgeous and much hyped production that, unfortunately, failed to perform as expected at the box office.

However, getting Gibson on board such a huge project is nearly impossible because, during his drunken arrest, he told a female police officer that “Jews are to blame for everything,” and studio executives have a very hard time letting that go by.

“Marvel is run by one of the richest and most prominent Israeli businessmen in Hollywood, and you can be sure even if Robert got down on his knees and begged, there’s no place for Mel in the Marvel films,” says another source.

But RDJ isn’t losing hope just yet. Allegedly. Seeing how Gibson landed the villain role in Robert Rodriguez’s latest “Machete” film even though few believed it would happen, perhaps a cameo in the second “Avengers” isn’t that far-fetched either.
