With his career doing better than ever, Robert Downey Jr. is about to open a whole new chapter in his life. He and wife Susan Downey are expecting their first child together, it has been confirmed. Susan, who is a high-power producer and is often credited for Robert’s incredible comeback and subsequent success, is pregnant with the couple’s first child.
News came first from Susan’s aunt, who went to
Radar Online and confirmed the pregnancy before the two expectant parents did.
“I think it’s wonderful that she’s pregnant,” Nancy Miller said, spilling the beans on the secret (until then) pregnancy.
Not only did she confirm the happy news, she also dished out more details about it.
“The baby is due in February. Susan’s father, my brother, called me about three weeks ago with the good news. Her parents are over the moon about it,” Nancy added.
Radar ran the story, sending the blogosphere into a frenzy of speculation. To end it, Downey’s publicist issued a statement to
People magazine: yes, Susan is expecting.
“Robert and Susan could not be more excited over this news. They can’t wait to welcome this new baby into their wonderful family,” the rep said.
As the celebrity magazine is quick to point out, the news should hardly come as a surprise, especially since Robert predicted he’d have another child (this will be his second) in 2012, back in 2010.
“I think I will be wrist-deep in doo-doo within 18 months. I’m calling it right here,” he said at the time, adding that he and Susan were hoping for a girl.
“I think we should probably try to have a girl because I don’t want another male entity to have to compete. I don’t want [my son] Indio to feel there’s another boy in my life. But I don’t know what we’d have to do [to have a girl],” Downey said.
