It’s still a few weeks to go until “Iron Man 2” drops in theaters around the world, and both Marvel and the main stars are
busily promoting it, as it is to be expected for a movie of this caliber. Leading man Robert Downey Jr., for instance, is saying that he’s certain the second film in the franchise will end up topping the expectations of even the most enthusiastic of fans,
Contact Music informs.
The actor, never shy when talking about his upcoming projects, reveals in a new interview that, while the material released so far to promote “Iron Man 2” might justify some to believe that they have a fairly good idea about its plot, one should never judge a book by its cover. For instance, the characters played by Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson, Whiplash and Black Widow, respectively, are not the only baddies Tony Stark / Iron Man will be dealing with in the upcoming installment.
Either way, Downey is certain fans will be pleasantly surprised – and he’s not even afraid to go on record with that. “I’d always thought that we know Tony is a little nuts, so why don’t we play with the expectations about the kind of stuff he does? I want to surprise people. There are some characters you may have heard are against Tony – well, we try to flip those expectations,” the star explains.
As for working with director Jon Favreau again, Downey says he was terribly happy to learn that Marvel trusted in them again to come up with a film that would kill competition at the box office. “The best thing is that the first movie went well enough that there’s not much second guessing my and Jon’s instincts about what works, you know? For no good enough reason, the folks at Marvel decided we were a very apt team with our far-out ideas of how to put a different spin on a superhero movie,” he adds.
Aside from Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow, “Iron Man 2” also introduces Rourke and Johansson as the bad guys, as also noted above. Another change that fans will note instantly and that got plenty of media coverage a while back is Marvel replacing Terrence Howard as Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes / War Machine with Don Cheadle. “
Iron Man 2” is scheduled for international release at the end of April and the beginning of May in most territories.
