Being a celebrity can be hard on one’s self-esteem, the cases of countless famous individuals have shown us throughout the years. The negative comments of fans and media representatives alike, the disapproval and the prejudices, all come to paint a picture that stars can hardly live with. Robert Downey Jr., though, has no problem with reading what people are saying about him on the net – quite on the contrary, he has recently revealed.

Newsweek has just held the 13th annual Oscar Roundtable, which has had six celebrities, the hottest of the moment, talk about their performances and even personal lives, gossip blogger Perez Hilton informs. This year, Robert Downey Jr., Brad Pitt, Anne Hathaway, Fran Langella, Sally Hawkins and Mickey Rourke were asked to sit down for a frank chat. As far as that goes, Downey was probably the frankest of the lot, it has been pointed out.

When asked whether he ever Googled himself to see what others had to say both about his personal life and his career, Robert was disarmingly honest, as is customary with him. “Oh, I love all that [expletive], personally. Sorry. I love just it. Because it’s a hoot. Some people overstate their support, like they know you. Other people are busy doing something else and just want to go on this chat site and say some despicable character assassination, which I honestly think they kind of nailed it. I do have that shortcoming. It’s really fun.” Downey said.

Oppositely, Brad Pitt was actually appalled by the idea of ever searching his own name on the Internet. “Dear God. No. Never.” Pitt said, adding that he did not even know how to operate a computer. Anne Hathaway too seemed positively outraged by the idea, initially saying that she would never want to know how people she does not know see her.

After Downey’s admission, though, Hathaway too had a change of heart, admitting that she did check out the latest headlines with her name in them, every once in a while. “OK, I have a confession. I lied before when you asked if I Googled myself. I do. I embarrassed by it because I know how terrible it is.” Anne said.
