Robert De Niro, 62, has met the President of the Dominican Republic, while he visited the country in preparation for a new movie about the CIA, which he will direct and star in.
The Hollywood legend met with President Leonel Fernandez and toured the historic area in the Dominican capital of Santo Domingo, where he has filed for permits and settled all paperwork for filming
The Good Shepherd.
The famous actor will return to the Dominican Republic in December, when the shootings are set to begin.
The Good Shepherd will hit theatres some time in 2006.
Robert De Niro will portray James Wilson, one of the CIA founders, while Matt Damon plays Wilson as a younger man, married to a beautiful woman (Angelina Jolie).
The two-time Oscar winner has made more than 60 films in 40 years.
Robert De Niro was named best actor for his 1980 performance as boxing champion Jake La Motta in Raging Bull, and best supporting actor in 1975 for playing the young mafioso Vito Corleone in The Godfather: Part II.
De Niro has also founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2002, as an attempt to promote culture and tourism in the downtown districts of New York, that were suffering in the wake of the 11 September attacks.
