He's depressed but he's not out of the business yet! Not many can say that Robbie Williams' behavior is something one could easily classify as 'common': a couple of weeks ago, the British singer announced that he would be retiring from the music scene to decide which direction to take in the future; now, he is launching a video contest for one of his songs.
The multi-platinum performer told BBC that, for his next release from the 'Rudebox' album, he has spoken to seven independent directors and asked them to come up with ideas for a video. But he hasn't ruled out the idea of lending a helping hand to an unknown and talented director either.
Williams announced that, besides the seven videos, another one will be submitted into the competition and, therefore, he has urged all those interested to send him a tape with their idea for a video for 'The 80s'. The eight finalists will be premiered and presented by Robbie in November, when he will also announce the big winner.
'Just like in music today you can create a masterpiece out of an iBook and some digital footage, as much as you can in a fancy studio. That's how "The 80s" began life itself, in my bedroom in LA with my friend Jerry messing around on my Mac. I'm very excited to see what the filmmakers can come up with', Williams said in the BBC interview.
