Robbery from Behind the Grave

- Anna Nicole Smith's show proposal might have been stolen by E! and Ashton Kutcher

By: Monica Gaza, Entertainment News Editor

It's hard to imagine that the unbelievable and sad saga of Anna Nicole Smith is not yet over – or that after all this time, the starlet's name is still involved in controversies, but it seems it's very much the case. This time, however, it's nothing scandalous on Anna's behalf – on the contrary, it looks like Anna was the one who was robbed –not of her money, but of a reality show idea. In 2004, the buxom blonde and her lawyer / lover Howard K. Stern approached the E! Network with a proposal for a show called
"Celebrities Strike Back", which emerges as suspiciously – and strikingly – similar with the new show Ashton Kutcher is doing for E! and which is called "Pop Fiction". So much so, in fact, that the whole problem may have to be solved in court.

The proposal that Anna and Stern forwarded to E! Back in 2004 proposed a show format in which "Anna Nicole Smith and other celebrities turn the tables and capitalize off of the overzealous media. What if the next big supposed scandal is not a scandal at all? What if everything is staged, but the media (and the public) don’t know it? Anna Nicole and other celebrity guests take aim at the media and push all the limits". This sounds precisely like the concept behind "Pop Fiction", a show broadcast by E! and fronted by Ashton Kutcher, who aims to "punk" the audience and the entertainment media into believing semi-outrageous stories about various celebrities. Its first episode featured Paris Hilton walking around L.A. with a fake Buddhist guru and Avril Lavigne pretending to be pregnant.

While the show may not be particularly successful at the moment, the question of whether or not E! used Anna Nicole's proposal (which she and Stern had registered with the Writer’s Guild, by the way) without Stern's consent is still standing. It may very well be that the entertainment network loved the concept but didn't think Anna was the most suitable person to make it work, and decided to give it a go now that the starlet has passed away. If this is true, Howard Stern may have a very legitimate trial on his hands, and since he has already threatened with legal action, the whole matter may further unfold in a court of law. Stay tuned for more news.
