Ron Gilbert, the creator of Monkey Island’s more recent release The Cave, says that he has left developer Double Fine because he is interested in working with smaller teams on more innovative and dynamics experiences.

He tells Eurogamer that, “I’ve always liked small teams. There’s just something about this very small group of people. You kind of become this one brain and everybody just knows everything that’s going on and you’re all just completely thinking along the same lines. And I’ve always found that very energizing.”

He says that one of his first successes, Maniac Mansion, was created by three people and that Monkey Island was also made by a small, tight-knitted group.

The Cave was an interesting mix of platformer and puzzles and many fans expected Ron Gilbert to continue working with Double Fine on the Kickstarter-funded classic adventure title.
