AMD will definitely have a reason to feel happy after all this

Game console shipments will probably rise quite a bit, if a certain rumor I've come upon turns out to be true.

After all, DRAM sales would not go up at all if there wasn't a forecast in place that said demand for game consoles would go up.

That's right, it's expected for game console DRAM demand to rise somewhat as soon as consoles with 8 GB memory debut.

Availability of PC DRAM might take a hit because of this, which could cause CPU, video card and motherboard vendors some grief.

Well, all except AMD anyway. AMD basically makes the chips for all new consoles, so it stands to lose absolutely nothing from this shift.

Meanwhile, smartphones will continue to lay pressure on the PC and consumer electronics memory industry, and embedded devices will help.
