Publisher Deep Silver and developer Piranha Bytes have announced that they are working together on a new game, Risen 2: Dark Waters, which is set to build on the foundation of the original and deliver a new game engine, a new story and a new game universe, raising the profile of the franchise.

The game will be set quite a few years after the end of the original Risen, with infuriated Titans having assaulted the world and humanity, destroying the land and pushing its inhabitants to the edge of extinction.

At the same time creatures have risen up from the sea and brought all seafaring and commerce to a halt, putting a further strain on the survivors of the Titan assaults.

The player in Risen 2: Dark Waters will inhabit a capable Inquisitor that is tasked with finding out how the creatures of the sea can be stopped and what caused their attacks.

The first clue lies with the pirates of the south seas, who apparently have a way of fighting the sea monsters and the player will head there in search of answers.

The developers at Piranha Bytes are saying that the game will take place on a variety of islands, each of them with a unique theme, specifically designed to make sure that the player is never bored and never annoyed by his surroundings.

Every quest that the player will take on has more than one possible solution, with cunning sometimes a better way of progressing than brute force.

Different choices will mean that characters will develop in new ways and acquire varied skills, meaning that the game has a high replayability.

Classic role-playing game mechanics will be mixed in Risen 2: Dark Waters with an environment that offers a lot of occasion for interaction and with a full day and night cycle.

The game is prepared for launch on the PC and on home console,s but at the moment it does not have a launch window.
