The developer Piranha Byes and the publisher Deep Silver have announced that they are offering a special pre-order bonus for all those gamers who are ready to pre-order the upcoming Risen 2: Dark Waters.

Those who put down money now can download for free a special extra story questline which will see them chase the legendary treasure buried by the pirate Captain Steelbeard.

The developers are saying that gamers who have also played the first Risen game will meet some familiar faces and will be able to see the conclusion of a story thread that was long left unresolved.

The Captain Steelbeard pre-order quest will feature a cook called Harlok, who served on the pirate ship Elenor and has access to the clues that lead to the treasure, but can only use them with the help of the player character and Patty, who is the daughter of Steelbeard.

The DLC will take the player to a completely new island, including a new environment and new puzzles to solve, with the ultimate prize being a character item that will permanently boost some stats.

Neither the developers nor the publishers have said whether the pre-order DLC will also be made available after Risen 2: Dark Waters launches for gamers who failed to pre-order and for those who pick up used copies of the game.

The new Risen game will see the hero of the first game in the series persuaded by the Inquisition to investigate the appearance of a number of monstrous creatures that are threatening shipping lines and the supplies of an entire archipelago of islands.

In addition to investigating the monsters, the player will also have to deal with a number of pirate factions, who seem to hold the key to the core quest.

The game uses the same mechanics as the first Risen, but players can now use firearms and a number of new powers that will confuse players during combat.

Risen 2: Dark Waters will be launched on April 24 on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
