Mini PC Specialist, Cloudstro has added a new device to their line-up of ARM-based Linux PCs, in the form of the new Rikomagic MK902 LE.

The device comes in the form of a small box powered by a Rockchip quad-core processor combined with 2GB of RAM and fitted with 16GB of internal storage.

The mini PC will ship with Ubuntu Linux out of the box and is available for purchase from the official Cloudsto webstore for just $159 / €116 a pop.

Customers are offered another option too, they can pick up the machine with Android (MK902) and install Ubuntu themselves, if they feel like it. Android models sell for $105 / €76 and up.

To be more specific, the MK902 runs on a Rockchip RK3188 ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core processor combined with 8GB / 16GB of internal storage. Other feats include a microSD card, HDMI output, 4 full-sized USB ports, 802.11n Wi-Fi, 10/100 Ethernet and microSD card slot.

The MK902 LE comes pre-installed with PicUntu 4.5, which is a custom version of Ubuntu 13.04, built to run on devices powered by Rockchip processors. The advantage of buying an LTE edition device is obvious, in that you won’t have to install the software yourself.

Ubuntu apps involved in basic web-browsing, video and audio streaming usually perform quite well on devices running RK3188 chips, but since there’s a lack of accelerate graphics or video, gaming activities will be strained.

So before purchasing an MK902 ask yourself if you want to use it as a multimedia device or for something more, in which case you’d better go for the Android version.
