Not long ago, reports had it that Rihanna’s upcoming album, the one that is to drop at the end of this month and that has been in the meantime officially named “Rated R,” would bring to the table a new sound, a much edgier approach to music and, at the same time, an angrier one as well. Judging by the leaked “Wait Your Turn (The Wait Is Ova),” this might very well still prove to be so.
Nothing official about the track has been announced as of now, but reports in the media say it’s the second official single off the upcoming album, after the ballad-type “Russian Roulette.” However, given that it leaked presumably a long while ahead of the release, it could very well be that it no longer gets to see the day of the release as a single, and will be replaced by some other track on the album. That doesn’t change, though, the fact that it sounds great, music critics agree.
With her last album before this one, Rihanna sang about love, partying and friends, and would often use for it a sound that did not cross the threshold beyond playful and fun, not even when she sang about being a “good girl gone bad.” However, with both “Russian Roulette” and “Wait Your Turn” (granted the latter is an official track included on the album), Rihanna moves over to the dark side and, from there, delivers very precise beats covered in her typical falsetto voice, music insiders say.
The result is something that, while not very likely to get massive airplay, sends a powerful message and is also extremely enjoyable. “A fresh material from Rihanna called ‘Wait Your Turn’ which was previously referred to as ‘The Wait Is Ova’ has hit the web. Unlike her previous single ‘Russian Roulette’ which carries slow jam, this new one contains mid-tempo tune. Earlier last month, Mikkel S. Eriksen of production duo Stargate said, ‘We were just told that they go for “The Wait Is Ova” as next single and that it will launch in a few weeks – before the album release,’ Though so, Rihanna and people from her label haven’t confirmed that matter,” AceShowbiz writes.
However, no matter how much some would argue that these new releases from the singer are the clearest sign of artistic maturation, there are still those who would rather have a more fun Rihanna, the kind they got to hear on the previous studio material. Below is the full “Wait Your Turn (The Wait Is Ova),” listen to it and make up your own mind as to who to believe. Enjoy.
