Rihanna said before she would never approach the subject, but she felt the need to explain why she had the restraining order against Chris Brown lifted and, clearly, her latest Rolling Stone interview was just the place to do that.

In February 2009, Chris Brown beat up his then-girlfriend Rihanna. Since then, the two have gone their separate ways, with Chris doing his best to pay for his crime.

This is mainly the reason why Rihanna decided to have the restraining order against him lifted in February this year: it was no longer useful.

Plus, she says, it was doing only damage to Chris’ career.

“We don’t have to talk again ever in my life. I just didn’t want to make it more difficult for him professionally,” she tells Rolling Stone about why she decided to have the restraining order lifted.

Rihanna also insists the world reacted badly when they crucified Brown as an artist for what he’d done to her, because that was a personal matter.

“What he did to me was a personal thing – it had nothing to do with his career. Saying he has to be a hundred feet away from me, he can’t perform at awards shows – that definitely made it difficult for him,” she explains.

“That was the only thing it was going to change, so I didn’t care. But you can never please people. One minute I’m being too hard, and the next minute I’m a fool because I’m not being hard enough,” she adds, speaking of those who criticized her decision.

Even though she doesn’t mention Chris again in the entire interview, Rihanna creates the distinct impression that she’s over the whole thing, that’s she’s forgotten the experience and learned from her mistake.

Not the same can be said about everybody, since Chris Brown continues to pay, one way or another, for assaulting her: he recently performed on Dancing With the Stars and, while fans were thrilled to have him there, celebrities went out of their way to avoid him backstage, as we also informed you earlier today.
