Rihanna continues to talk about the abusive relationship she had with ex Chris Brown and that culminated with the February assault that left her bloodied, bruised and fearing for her life, in a bid to serve as an example and a warning for other women in the same situation. In the second part of the interview, the singer goes into painful details of what happened on February 8, when Brown attacked her, as People can confirm.

This is, as fans must know, the first time that Rihanna publicly talks about the incident, revealing the other day that she had been too “embarrassed” to do so until now. However, in the meantime, she has come to the realization that what happened that night was nowhere near her fault and that she must do something and speak up to help other girls and women who might be dealing with the same problem of domestic abuse as well. This is also why she chose to go into the specifics of the attack itself.

“I caught him in a lie. And he wouldn’t tell the truth…” Rihanna tells Diane Sawyer during the interview, confirming that, indeed, the fight did start over a text message Brown had received from an unknown woman. Rihanna says she insisted to see the text, but Brown would simply not let her have the phone. “I was being more annoyed at that point in our relationship he had to lie about something so stupid, I couldn’t take that he kept lying to me. And he couldn’t take that I wouldn’t drop it. And… it was ugly.” she continues.

“I fended him off with my feet from one… side of the car, but… it was not like, it was not like a fight with each other. I just… I really just wanted it to stop… I was bleeding. I was swollen in my face. So there was no way of me getting home, except for, my next option was to get out of the car and walk. Start walking in a gown, in a bloody face. So I really don’t know what my plan was. I didn’t have a plan. That whole night was not part of my plan.” Rihanna says of the attack.

Still, she got back with Chris Brown after her wounds healed, she admits. Soon enough though, she also realized that he had little idea of the damage he had done, so she started to hate him. Rihanna says she’s now better, that she’s moved on from the incident to draw her lessons from it, that she no longer hates Chris Brown. But some wounds will never heal, and this is precisely what abusive men don’t understand, she believes.
