When Rihanna sat down with Oprah for an emotional TV special, people knew to expect to hear her talk about Chris Brown, but few imagined she'd admit to still loving him. Joan Rivers is one of those people.

The Queen of Mean, as she's sometimes labeled in the press, took to her Twitter a few days ago to crack a joke in typical fashion about Rihanna and her admission that she still loved the man who put her in the hospital in a fit of rage back in 2009.

Behind the joke though was a belief shared by many: to love an abusive man isn't unheard of, but it's wrong to go on a public forum to profess said feeling because it might come across as a glorification (of sorts) of domestic violence.

“Rihanna confessed to Oprah Winfrey that she still loves Chris Brown. Idiot! Now it's MY turn to slap her,” Joan wrote on her Twitter feed.

Rihanna's reaction came almost instantly but, instead of defending her choice of speaking up for Chris on Oprah's show, she opted for insulting Rivers by saying she'd grown slow and dumb with age.

“@Joan_Rivers wow u do really do get slow when you're old huh? Slap on some diapers,” the pop star fought back.

She's deleted the first part of her tweet ever since and chances are it had something to do with Joan's second tweet, which explains what she meant by the first one.

“Honey, @Rihanna, everyone knows: If he hit you once, he’ll hit you again. Read the statistics. PS – Love to have you on Fashion Police!” the comedienne tweeted.

As we also noted last week, Rivers isn't the only one to feel that Rihanna was wrong in going on Oprah and saying she still loved Brown, despite the fact that he attacked her so brutally 3 years ago.

Media specialists saw that as a huge PR misstep because it went against the image of Rihanna she was trying to promote, that of a strong, independent woman who made her own fortune no matter what the world said of her.

Others, though, agreed that in this particular case, honesty was the best. Love is never rational so Rihanna's fans would probably not expect her to be so either.

In baring her soul like that, Rihanna has confirmed to the world that she's human before she's a celebrity, they said.
