In recent months, Rihanna has been getting a lot of (negative) media attention for her stage outfits, racy dance routines and suggestive moves on stage. To those who thinks she’s overstepping the boundaries, she has one thing to say: let the girl be a rock star. The singer is the cover girl of the latest issue of
Glamour magazine and, as expected, she brings on the glam factor in a sizzling photospread.
In the accompanying interview, she also talks about how she’s often considered a role model for girls and why she’s not always happy to be assigned such a huge responsibility.
“I want to set the right example and, at the same time, live my life…” Rihanna says of how this puts her on the spot. She has to find a middle way if she wants to do both.
“I feel like pop stars can’t be rock stars anymore because they have to be role models, and it takes the fun out of it for us, because we just want to have fun with art,” the singer muses.
Also in the interview, Rihanna opens up about her love of fashion and how challenging she finds it every day of her life to come up with a trendy outfit from the unlikeliest, oddest items.
In fact, Rihanna lives for challenges, she says. She hates drama but she also hates perfection, which is why she always makes sure she finds challenges in every aspect of her life when she believes it’s running the risk of becoming “too perfect.”
“Getting dressed, I want to pick the most bizarre pair of shorts so I can figure out how to make it look right, or work an outfit that will make people go, ‘What the hell is she wearing?’” she says of how she spices up her style.
Truth be told, Rihanna is, if anything, one of the boldest dressers in showbiz right now. She’s always taking huge risks, which also means she has a few hit and misses as well. But it’s all in the name of fun, she says.
