Singer shows she’s as edgy as it gets

Rihanna has often been compared with Lady Gaga in terms of doing with her hairstyles what the latter does with her outfits. The Barbadian beauty broke out the new ‘do over the weekend, showing that, indeed, when it comes to edge and even perhaps setting a trend, there’s no one better at it than her, as the New York Daily News can confirm.

Although the singer has slowly but certainly stepped away from the doll-like image she had when she first emerged in the spotlight, the latest ‘do has been described as extreme even by those industry watchers who like to consider Rihanna a trendsetter. Still, the loose mane on top, styled in such a manner so as to create the impression that it’s not actually styled at all and the buzzed sides scream ‘90s punk rock aggressiveness and, if anyone, Rihanna has what it takes to rock the look, others are saying.

Clearly, the regular Jane probably couldn’t work the ‘do like Rihanna does – and it’s not only the outfit or the tattoos that are making it possible, it has been said. To sport this type of close shaved Mohawk requires plenty of personality and a certain sense of glamor that rarely seems to stick to anyone in real life, therefore chances of seeing the edgy ‘do be picked up again are actually slimmer than we might believe.

Nevertheless, should anyone consider it, then there are other things as well that need one’s attention. To make things easier, suffice it to say that, if a regular woman decided to “steal” Rihanna’s new ‘do, she might as well borrow some tips on how to dress as well. For instance, the edgy hairstyle must go hand in hand with an equally edgy dress code, which is why flowery or patterned, feminine fabrics are out of the question from the start, unless they are matched with more aggressive items, such as punk-style jeans or heavy metal accessories, stylists point out.

As is the case with every hairstyle, the Mohawk too must be worked, which means women afraid of being stared at, or who live in constant pain of not standing out from the crowd, might as well go for something less eye-catching, like the safe curls or even their wilder correspondent, the perm. A ‘do like Rihanna’s must be worn like a celebrity would do it, stylists point out: while screaming “Look at me!” might be a bit far-fetched, acting like it will certainly help.
