There has been some serious buzz over the rumor that Rihanna actually managed to land the coveted role of the next Bond Girl in the upcoming spy movie featuring Daniel Craig and directed by Sam Mendes. That's because Rihanna is known for a lot of things, but acting is not one of them – everyone recalls the fiasco that was “Battleship.”

Now, the rumor is getting cleared up by some sources who've spoken with Hollywoodlife and assured that Rihanna wasn't going to be cast as the female lead in what is shaping up to be the biggest Bond movie to date, but she was going to appear in the flick – just as a “glorified cameo.”

The new Bond movie will have Rihanna in a cameo role, according to reports

The news comes as the latest Bond movie, still untitled, given the generic name of “Bond 24,” is going to start shooting on December 6. So far, details have been few and far in between, no doubt a consequence of the fact that Sam Mendes likes to run a tight ship and has sworn cast and crew to secrecy under threat of death and/or torture.

“There have definitely been discussions of her joining the cast to be a Bond Girl,” says the unnamed source, adding “But she will not be the most focused Bond Girl if she gets the part. It will be more of a glorified cameo. Something that they have done in the past with people like Madonna, it will be a brief part of the film if she ends up making an appearance.”

The producers are looking to pull the Madonna treatment

The idea behind this obvious campaign is to maybe include the Bajan singer on the soundtrack of the movie, just like Madonna was included in the “Die Another Day” film with Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Apart from singing the title song, Madonna was also featured briefly in the movie, long enough to make the credits, but short enough to be forgettable.

The insider confirms, “They are actually looking for her to do the theme and the role would just be an added bonus.” The move is quite smart and beneficial for everyone involved: Rihanna gets to add another film to her growing acting resume, and the producers get a popular artist in the charts to appear on their soundtrack.

Unfortunately for Rihanna, she has a serious order to fill, since the previous Bond movie “Skyfall” had Adele singing the title song and it managed to become one of the best-selling songs of the year, serious chart-topping material.
