Simon Ffinch, a developer working on the MMO Rift, says that his team has been very happy with the way the player base has reacted to the game’s move towards a free-to-play business model.

The company wants to make sure that the focus is always on delivering a fun game experience rather than on squeezing more money from the fans.

The developer is quoted by VG247 as saying that, “Obviously I want people to buy stuff but I don’t want them to ever feel like that’s why I want them in Rift.”

He adds, “we just wanted to remove that barrier of entry so that everyone could just jump in and play.”

Rift is set to get more content before the end of the year and the MMO is currently running a series of summer-themed events.
