Namco Bandai has confirmed that the upcoming Ridge Racer game that will appear for the PlayStation Vita handheld platform won’t be a full pledged release, as the title will include just three tracks and five cars, although it will be priced lower than other Vita games.

The PlayStation Vita is set to get a hefty amount of games when it will be released in Japan, this December, and in Europe and North America, in February.

Ridge Racer is set to be among these titles, but Namco Bandai says, via Andriasang, that fans shouldn’t get too excited about it, as it’s going to include just five cars that you can race on three classic tracks, Harborline 765, Highland Cliffs, and Southbay Docks. These are unchanged from previous iterations of the series, although you will get to race on the courses in reverse.

The Japanese company did reveal that Ridge Racer for the Vita will be priced lower than other games for the console, at 3,980 yen (around $51) for the retail version, 2,980 yen ($38) for the digital edition. In comparison, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, a full pledged Vita game, costs in Japan a whopping 5,980 yen ($77).

Namco Bandai is going to offer downloadable content, however, so expect to spend quite a lot of money on extra things for the racing game. The main menu of the title even has a direct link to the PlayStation Store, so you’ll definitely need to have funds in your PlayStation Wallet and free space on your Vita’s memory card.

The company also mentioned that the low price is set to allow as many players as possible to try it out and make the special Planetary League multiplayer mode an active experience. In this online mode, players are split into four teams, based on the X, Circle, Square, and Triangle buttons on any PlayStation device, and enter special missions that they need to complete every 24 hours in exchange for points.

These team battles can be experience either via Wi-Fi or via Ad-Hoc multiplayer. You can also just go up against so-called ‘ghost’ data from your rivals, which is downloaded through Vita’s Near application.
