The 30 Greenpeace activists and journalists arrested in Russia earlier this year, in September, have recently all been released from prison on bail. However, they are still accused of hooliganism and, if found guilty, risk being sentenced to 7 years in prison.

Together with several other celebrities, musician Ricky Martin is now asking that Russian authorities drop these charges and admit that the Arctic 30 have done nothing wrong when protesting Gazprom and its plans to drill in the Arctic.

According to Look to the Stars, Ricky Martin took to Facebook to express his support for the environmentalists, and posted the following message:

“30 people are facing charges of hooliganism in Russia for standing up to protect the Arctic from dangerous oil exploration.”

“Stand with them to have the charges dropped, and help protect the Arctic for everyone,” he urged his fans.

As reported, Russian authorities have agreed to let the Arctic 30 walk out of jail. However, they have not yet given them permission to leave the country and return home.
