British comedian says he'll really try to offend people with his jokes this time

Ricky Gervais came under serious fire after the Golden Globes 2011 for some of the jokes he chose to include in his routine as a host, but he's coming back next year. This time, he says, prepare to be truly outraged.

After months of speculation on whether the Hollywood Foreign Press Association would ask him back as host after this year's debacle, confirmation has arrived: Gervais will host again, the third and last time.

They don't say that good publicity is better than no publicity at all for nothing.

Writing on his blog, Gervais says that all the viewers at home and media representatives who felt offended by the jokes in this year's routine, should brace themselves for something really scandalous.

They exaggerated last year when they took offense with his cracks at celebrities, but they're bound to be justly upset when he steps on the stage in 2012 for the next issue of the Globes.

“So it looks like I'm hosting The Golden Globes for a third and definitely final time,” Gervais writes.

“It was a tough decision to be honest. There were many pros and cons. I loved doing it, but I was worried that I couldn't improve on last year,” he further says.

One of the pros was the idea that many would be uncomfortable with him hosting again. Another was getting to shove it in the faces of the haters.

“What actually tipped the balance and made me say yes, was the fact that it would shut up all those [expletive-]ing idiots who said that I'd never be invited back. Is that the wrong reason to do something? Ha ha. I think it is,” the comedian writes.

“The outrage I caused was of course, as usual, totally out of proportion to the things I said. I don't think anyone had any right to be offended but they were. This year I'm going to make sure their offense is completely justified,” he points out.

He's already writing the gags, thinking of memorable one-liners. In fact, he's already accepting suggestions about them on Twitter, where he also boasts about warning Oscars host Billy Crystal to lay off sensitive topics because they're his.
