“Real fur is real cruelty,” read the message accompanying the disturbing photo

It's all fun and games until animals get hurt. Then it’s time to stop joking around and shock people if that is the only way to get a reaction out of them, Ricky Gervais seems to think.

Late last week, the comedian took to Twitter to voice his complaints about the fashion industry's stubbornness to make and sell clothes made from animal fur.

As much as those squeamish would have liked him to, Ricky Gervais did not settle for merely posting some random message about how wearing fur is wrong and nobody should ever do it.

On the contrary, he shared a fairly graphic photo showing an animal with its paws caught in a metal trap with his Twitter followers.

“Real fur is real cruelty. Please know what a beautiful, innocent animal goes through for you to wear it,” read the message accompanying the disturbing image.

The post was retweeted over 3,500 times, so there is little denying that, if raising awareness of the fur industry and its cruel ways was what Ricky Gervais was looking to achieve, then the comedian most definitely reached his goal.

The picture that the Ricky Gervais posted on Twitter is available below.

Viewer discretion is recommended as some might find it disturbing.
