Singer, songwriter and actor Rick Springfield was arrested in May 2011 for DUI and threatening police officers. He was supposed to be in court in February, with his failure to do so translating into a bench warrant for his arrest.

He was arrested the other day, TMZ reports.

However, because he called his attorney immediately after being served with the papers, he was released before he was even booked.

“A rep for the LA County Sheriff's Department tells TMZ, deputies went to Rick's L.A. home this morning to execute the warrant, but by the time he was being booked, Rick's attorney had the warrant recalled. Rick was subsequently released,” the celebrity publication writes.

In a post on his Facebook page cited by the same media outlet, Springfield explains that the arrest warrant was a misunderstanding – more on his part than on anyone else’s.

Simply put, he did not know he was supposed to be in court or else he would have been there.

“The bench warrant was issued Wednesday after Springfield failed to show up to court in February, when a rep for the court says he was supposed to show proof he completed an alcohol education program. Rick was also supposed to pay $1,555 [€1,195] in fines,” TMZ writes.

“Springfield was ordered to complete the alcohol program as part of a plea deal he struck with prosecutors to [stay] out of jail,” adds the same media outlet.

In his Facebook explanation, the star makes it sound as if the whole thing was just an awkward situation, one that is now cleared up for good.

Considering that he doesn’t quite have a reputation of a hellraiser (far from it, actually: he’s never been in trouble with the law before), there’s no reason to doubt him and not take him at his word.
