Another Hollywood couple bites the dust: ongoing reports say that Richard Gere and Carey Lowell have been separated for many months now, and are preparing to file for divorce.

The two have been married for 11 years, which, in Hollywood years, pretty much means an eternity.

Page Six claims to have it from several, very reliable sources that married life has not been working out for the two, which is why they decided to separate to see if it helped in any way or, on the contrary, show them that this was the way to go.

“Gere, 64, and model/actress Lowell, 52, haven’t been photographed together since a Hamptons screening of his Wall Street thriller ‘Arbitrage’ last year, and one source close to the couple said they’ve ‘been spending time apart for quite some time’,” the report notes.

No one seems to know what exactly went wrong, but insiders guess that it had to do with their different lifestyles, in that he’s a much more private person, while she likes to socialize more.

“They have a place in Bedford [NY], and he likes it because it’s quiet and he likes the solitude. She likes being in North Haven in the limelight. They live next door to Jimmy Buffett and his family, and they’re good friends,” a tipster is quoted as saying.

The celebrity magazine also hints that, when and if the two file for divorce, the world might be in for another one of those epic, typically-Hollywood divorce battles.

“Either way, the pair will have plenty of pricey property to divide,” Page Six writes, hinting that Richard and Carey did not sign a prenup when they married.

“Their 12,000-square-foot, 12- bedroom North Haven home — called Strongheart Manor — was put on the market in July for a whopping $65 million [€48 million]. It features an ‘outdoor fireplace pavilion,’ 300 feet of waterfront and a teahouse. Gere’s also an owner of the luxuriously restored Bedford Post Inn,” adds the report.

Reps for either star were not available for comment at the time this came out.
