Jason Warner, Ubuntu Desktop Manager at Canonical, decided to make Rhythmbox the default music player in the upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system.

Yes! Rhythmbox will be (once again) the default audio/music playback and organizer app for the Ubuntu operating system, replacing the unstable Banshee.

"Thank you all for sending feedback on the default music player for 12.04. It is clear the right decision for 12.04 is to make Rhythmbox the default music player. Thank you, above all else, for keeping the conversation cordial and making the decision about what is best for Ubuntu." - said Jason Warner.

The decision was taken based on the feedback received from users who posted on the Ubuntu mailing list and our "Do You Want Rhythmbox or Banshee in Ubuntu 12.04?" article.

Thank you all for making the right decision by choosing Rhythmbox for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin).

I always liked Rhythmbox much more than Banshee. It's a good move to bring it back. I don't really now why did they replace it in earlier releases.

Why? I rather like Banshee and it has way more extensions...

sudo apt-get install banshee
no big loss
I think banshees better, maybe not quite as stable as rhythmbox, but the reason I like banshee is because of my large collection of music videos and it has a better library support for them

Who cares ... Ubuntu has just added itself to the list of semi-extinct species.

Rhythmbox often failed for me. It would not download podcasts, wouldn't play music, and wouldn't transfer songs to an audio player.
