RhinoLINUX Lite Xfce Edition, a computer operating system designed to work on most modern systems and based on Ubuntu and Linux Mint, is now at version 7.0.

RhinoLINUX 7.0 has been dubbed “Saucy SUZIE” and the code name betrays the roots of the distribution. The developers have used more than just one base for their operating system, namely Xubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) and Linux Mint 16 (Petra). This is rather unusual, especially if we take into consideration the fact that Ubuntu 13.10 is about to reach end of life in a couple of months.

If we take a closer look at the other distros released by this developer in the past we will see that he never targets LTS releases, which is at least odd. Nonetheless, the operating system made with the help of Ubuntu and Mint is stable and comes with a host of features.

“This edition, called the LITE EDITION as it is intended for lite users (who only need the basics) and for lite PCs (those that are now legacy and perhaps low on resources). Please note however that despite the ‘Lite’ Label this edition features a full set of applications and utilities, and can also be happily run on more modern hardware,” said the developers in the official announcement.

The devs made quite a few changes to the system. For example, the Whisker Menu has been updated to version 1.2, an option to load the menu hierarchy has been implemented, an option to not include favorites in recently used items has been added, the option to set custom commands has been added, an option to show recently used items by default has been implemented, and the release features better out of the box support for Pulse Audio.

Also, the MDM login screen is now compatible with GDM 2.x themes and newer HTML5 themes, the ability for the last logged-in user to simply log in by entering his/her password has been added, the boot and login sequence no longer scans your system for BTRFS partitions, the EFI support has been improved, Steam has been included by default, LibreOffice 4.x is the default office suite, and the Xfce desktop environment has been updated to version 4.10.

A complete list of applications and features for the RhinoLINUX Lite XFCe Edition 7.0 “Saucy SUZIE” distribution can be found in the official announcement. You can download RhinoLINUX Lite XFCe Edition 7.0 right now from Softpedia.
