The company has until Friday to pay up, or its customers' data will be made available

Rex Mundi hackers claim to have breached the servers of Websolutions.it, an Italian web hosting service.

The hackers say the company has until next Friday to pay up, otherwise they’ll leak the customer information they’ve stolen.

“In addition to downloading their entire database, we also gained access to their back-end administration tool. We are now in possession of their customers' records, which include their names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, logins and passwords, in addition to hosted email and FTP accounts,” the hackers said.

According to Rex Mundi, the company hasn’t met their demands so far.

To show they’re serious, the hackers leaked some sample data consisting of administrator credentials, which they claim have already been changed, user data, and advertising information.

“Can you really trust a Web hosting company (and its sister company 9net) that is unable to protect its own database and is willing to let its customers' private data be released publicly just to save a few Euros?” Rex Mundi stated.

We’ve reached out to Websolutions.it to find out how they plan on addressing the issue, but so far, they haven’t responded to our inquiry.

In late June, the hackers blackmailed Swiss web hosting company Hoststar.ch. Hoststar still hasn’t responded to our request for comment, so it’s uncertain how they’ve handled the incident.

We haven’t seen any Hoststar data being leaked online. However, it’s possible that a competitor or a “mischievous individual” – as the hackers call it – might have offered to purchase the stolen information.

Earlier this year, the hackers also tried to blackmail Drake International and Belgian company Buy Way, but both companies stated that they were not willing to give in to the cybercriminals’ demands.

As far as we know, none of the companies targeted by Rex Mundi accepted to pay. On the other hand, they could have monetized the stolen information by selling it on the underground market.
