Revolutionary: One-Click Linux Software Installation!

- Linspire's CNR service to support popular Linux distributions

By: Marius Nestor, Linux Editor

Linspire has announced yesterday that it plans to expand its CNR ("Click 'N Run") software management and digital download service to support multiple Linux distributions. Plans include an initial support for Fedora Core, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu and Debian Linux distributions. Kevin Carmony, the President
& CEO of Linspire Inc. stated that he had enough with complains from MS Windows and Mac users about Linux that there are too many distributions and each one has a different way to install software: "When we started Linspire, we knew that we'd need to overcome this complexity. This led to Linspire's CNR ("Click 'N Run") technology." - says Kevin Carmony. Until now, the CNR service was available only for Linspire and Freespire users, but it will begin to provide one click software installation technology for users of other desktop Linux distributions.

CNR is a free and easy way to access over 20,000 desktop Linux products, packages and libraries, all with a single mouse click. Finding, installing and managing software on your desktop Linux computer was never that easy. CNR makes finding the right piece of software easy with user reviews, screenshots, descriptions, charts, and so on. When you find the software you wanted, with literally one click, it will be installed on your computer and icons will be added to your desktop and Start Menu. Also, CNR notifies you when updates are available for the installed applications via the CNR.com website, which you can easily install with one click.

Linspire began to work on this project a year ago, and has completely redesigned, updated, and enhanced the CNR technology to support multiple distributions, both Debian and RPM based. The Click 'N Run service will remain a free service for all the distributions supported. CNR will also bring more choices for desktop Linux users to purchase premium products and services, such as legally licensed DVD Players, TransGaming's Cedega, Sun's StarOffice, Win4Lin Pro, CodeWeavers' CrossoverOffice.

Having all the above mentioned in mind, I really hope this new and revolutionary service will bring many new users into the Linux world.

Please visit CNR’s website for an in-depth overview of what CNR will provide to Linux users across the globe.
