Emmabuntüs 3, a distribution created for reconditioning old computers that relies on the robustness of Xubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, is now at version 1.0.

The Emmabuntüs distribution is intended to be sleek, accessible, and equitable, but above all, it's designed for old computers. This can be clearly seen from its desktop, which is very lightweight and this should require low-end hardware to run properly.

This is an operating system built for refurbished computers destined for humanitarian organizations, but it's also used to promote the discovery of Linux and to extend the lifespan of the hardware. Many times there is no need to upgrade the computer just to run a newer operating system. It's likely that you just might need a better OS.

"It strives to be beginner-friendly and reasonably light on resources so that it can be used on older computers. It also includes many modern features, such as a large number of pre-configured programs for everyday use, dockbar for launching applications, easy installation of non-free software and media codecs, and quick setup through automated scripts. The distribution supports English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German languages," reads the official website.

The goals of Emmabuntüs Team are very clear and they include reconditioning the computers given to humanitarian associations, collaborate with Emmaüs communities, promote the discovery of GNU/Linux by beginners, and limit the electronic devices waste to reduce the overall consumption of raw materials.

According to the changelog, the extensions Startpage and HTTPS_Everywhere have been added to Firefox and Chromium, the Svox Pico voice syntheses tool has been added in 5 languages, OOo4Kids has been implemented in 6 languages, OSMGpsMap has been implemented in Gramps, GnuChess and GnuCap have been added for the Gcompris application, a defect with certain icon labels under VirtualBox has been corrected, favorites are now available in MenuLibre, gSpeech has been added to allow easy reading-speech documents, and the extension Language Tools 2.6 for LibreOffice has been updated.
