Gamers might get more Raiden-focused content in the future

The development team at Platinum Games and publisher Konami are getting ready to launch downloadable content packs for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which will allow gamers to play as bosses JetStream Sam and Blade Wolf.

The team believes that the choice to create two small prequels rather than expand Raiden’s story allows them to expand the lore of the series and give fans more explanations about the story.

Etsu Tamari, the chief story writer on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance tells Polygon that “We don’t directly explain why Sam works with Desperado in the main story. So that content goes a little bit more into detail on it. The Blade Wolf sub-story depicts a mission it’s running with Mistral before the encounter with Raiden.”

The developer also explains why Raiden becomes Blade Wolf’s mentor later during the events of Revengeance, and the special relationship that develops between the two.

He adds, “I came up with the idea that Raiden would take over the ‘teacher’ role for Blade Wolf, the way that Snake was his mentor in MGS2.”

It’s unclear whether Platinum Games also has plans to offer Raiden-based DLC later during the lifetime of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

The new game in the long running franchise is more action-focused than those created by Hideo Kojima himself, and allows gamers to move fast and stay on the offense as they explore a story focused on boss battles and revenge.

At the moment, the core Kojima Productions team is working on a new Metal Gear Solid title called Ground Zeroes.

The game will use an open world structure, and Kojima says that all the stealth elements of the series would be present, with new options added to give players more freedom to tackle challenges in different ways.

Ground Zeroes might be launched on next-gen home consoles.
