The development team at Kojima Productions says that the Xbox 360 version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was not launched in Japan because the Microsoft device failed to create a solid install base.

Yuji Korekado, a producer working on the game, tells the official Hideo Kojima podcast that, “Around last year, Xbox 360 sales didn’t really grow. If we did release that, there was talk that it would be rough on the brand.”

It is unclear how a small number of copies moved on the Xbox 360 would have damaged the Metal Gear Rising franchise.

At the moment, Hideo Kojima is working on a new Metal Gear Solid video game, which will be linked to the previously revealed Ground Zeroes.

The game is expected to be launched in 2014.
