Electric cars are gaining momentum after years in which they were shadowed by gas-guzzling automobiles. This resurgence of interest in electric vehicles is exactly what the ‘Revenge of the Electric Car’ brings to focus, a documentary that is set to air at cinemas across the United States starting from next month.

After surprisingly many screening requests received, the movie premiere is set for Los Angeles and New York on October 21st and will then roll out nationally.

Auto giants such as Nissan and General Motors, and EV start-up manufacturer Tesla Motors, are involved in the process that is aimed at shaping the mobility of the future.

Narrated by Tim Robbins, the ‘Revenge of the Electric Car’ will come with a cast packed with important figures from the automotive industry”: CEO and President of Renault and Nissan Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Tesla Motors Elon Musk, Former Vice Chairman of GM Bob Lutz and EV do-it-yourselfer Greg “Gadget” Abbott.

The movie is directed by Chris Paine, the same man behind the ‘Who Killed the Electric Car?’ 2006 documentary that emphasized the strong resistance to change put up by the oil industry and the automobile companies.

“For this film, we wanted to do something different. Last time we followed a group of activists fighting from the outside,” Paine explains.

“Tesla CEO Elon Musk puts his personal fortune on the line. Bob Lutz, GM's Vice Chair, stakes the entire brand on the very technology it once tried to kill. Nissan's CEO, Carlos Ghosn, bets the farm on a car almost no one believes can happen,” he further adds.

“The challenges they face are as tough as capitalism can be cagey. But the prize if they succeed is really for all of us: the reinvention of the car without gasoline, and potentially without fossil fuel at all," Paine concludes.
