Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile is reportedly preparing the launch of a new flavor of its Xperia Z1 smartphone, and a leaked photo that allegedly shows the new device has emerged online.

According to a recent article on XperiaBlog, the device in question is in fact the Xperia Z1s, which has been long rumored to be the smaller version of Xperia Z1.

However, it appears that Xperia Z1 mini will turn out to be a completely different smartphone and that the Xperia Z1s will be a new, redesigned Z1 variant.

The aforementioned leaked photo with the new device version (available courtesy of digi-wo) doesn’t show much on what it will have to offer to users, but it does show some design changes when compared to the original.

Apparently, Sony will place the 3.5mm headphone jack on the new Android device somewhere in the middle of the top, and not close to the edge, as it is on the Xperia Z1.

Previously leaked photos with the mobile phone showed a similarly placed jack, which suggests that the new image with the Xperia Z1s is real.

The newly leaked photo also appears to show that the upcoming smartphone might be taller and wider than the Xperia Z1, which might imply that Sony would aim at releasing the phone with a tad larger screen when compared to the current flagship device.

However, no official specific info on this has emerged until now, and it remains to be seen if this is indeed the case. Chances are that a 5.2-inch screen of a higher resolution will indeed be part of this phone’s design.

With no official confirmation on any of these, we’ll take the info with a grain of salt for the time being but, based on the previous reports on the matter, we can expect official details on the smartphone to be provided in early January 2014, so stay tuned to learn the news.
