Glaciers move faster than Facebook rollouts. The site has more than a year since it started using the Timeline and it's still not enabled for everyone.

The new Facebook Messages, the one on the site, not any of the Messenger apps, got a big revamp months ago, but Facebook is only now getting ready to make it available to more people.

The new Messages is an entirely new experience, it's easier to follow the conversations and the two-pane view makes it possible to switch between them with ease. It's also easier to find past conversations, filter the read messages and so on.

What's interesting is that, even though some people are only now seeing the new Facebook Messages and some still don't have it, Facebook is apparently working on and testing an even newer version.

Granted, this latest version is an improvement over the new Messages, not a complete revamp, but it's still surprising that Facebook is launching a new version when it's not done launching the old one.
