RetroUI is one of the first apps that promised to provide users with the familiar Start button on a Windows 8 device, but this option was only offered with a shareware license.

Starting today, Windows 8 users who want to download RetroUI free of charge can do so by signing in with their Facebook account and hitting the “Like” button on the developer’s page.

Download links for the 32- and 64-bit versions of the application, along with a full license code, will be then submitted to users by mail.

“Many users are confused with how and when to use the new Windows 8 interface and when to use the classic desktop. RetroUI integrates them by making the Taskbar visible whenever the Modern UI features are running. This RetroUI exclusive technology eliminates the confusion many users have and allows users to simply click the Start button or Taskbar to return to the classic desktop,” the company said in on its page.

The free version of RetroUI can be found here.
