Sid Meier's Railroads! is the fourth installment in this economic simulation series and was released in October of 2006. It has 3D graphics and the games' developers decided to make it more real time strategy oriented. In Sid Meier's Railroads! there is a serious lack of straight railroad track, as more hills, mountains and rivers were included.

Also, strong emphasis was put on the economical aspect as players are required to support an entire industry using their railroad infrastructure. First, they have to win an auction for a new technology and, once they get hold of that technology, they can use it for a ten-year period. The game also has a multiplayer option, as you can play it via LAN or over the Internet.
