You can dress your blog in a theme reminiscent of the first Macintosh interface

Steve Jobs' death has triggered a lot of responses. Those who knew him, even briefly, were quick to laud his best traits and many companies and websites made their own tributes to the tech innovator.

Now, you can do it as well, as long as you have a WordPress.com blog, with the new Retro MacOS theme. The theme has now been made available in the WordPress.com theme gallery for anyone to use.

You can find it in the Theme Showcase, preview it on your blog and then enable it, or simply go to Appearances > Themes and find it there.

"Dress up your blog with retro, chunky-grade pixellated graphics and evoke some serious computer nostalgia," WordPress creator Matt Mullenweg wrote.

"This theme is a whimsical homage to the days in black and white, celebrating the magic of Mac OS. It displays your menu items, year archives, and categories as folders and icons on the evoked desktop," he described the theme.

It's not the most practical WordPress theme out there, but it's certainly original. Well, at least it will be until half of the blogs on the site will start using it.

Even so, it will give your blog a unique look and may improve your geek cred. On the other hand, it may have the exact opposite effect and true, hardcore geeks may think you're just a poser trying to cash in the latest hype and the more general, vintage/retro/nostalgia trend.

The theme was originally created by Stuart Brown and the WordPress.com theme has now adapted it to use with the blog hosting service after noticing it on the Boing Boing blog, which switched to it shortly after Jobs' death.

"It seemed fitting, and we wanted to make it available to all of you, so our theme team worked through the night and here it is," Mullenweg said.
